# 005 - A way too obvious (not so) secret.
Lately I’ve been reminded that starting and having something of your own is truly one of the biggest challenges we could ever tackle. And I’m saying this from a place of ‘I’m in it - with you’.
To let you in on a few little facts about me.
I’ve been on the journey of entrepreneurship and building my own business for a good 10 years. I don’t believe (hope) it takes everyone that long to create something they’re truly proud of and that they enjoy doing, but the last 10 years have taught me a lot.
I’ve had many ups and successes, amazing opportunities and highlights, and just as many times of doubt, self-judgement, crisis, stagnation, and frustration. The wobbly phases usually lasted all a bit longer than the good patches.
But after all - about 10 years in. And I’m here - and the one thing I’m most proud of is that despite all odds and moments of wanting to just give up - I’m here with a business I’m proud off.
The last 10 years have taught me resilience, grit, integrity, and standing up always one more time than falling down.
You start, where you start.
Everyone starts their entrepreneurial journey from exactly where they are. From heart break, from frustration, from hopes and dreams, from failure, from delusion (in the good way), with savings, without savings, with or without a trialed and tested concept.
All that matters is that we start. And start over. And pivot. And do it all again.
I think more often than not entrepreneurship is the calling of the soul that there is a better way, a different approach available to us and that we need to surrender to the journey ahead of us to figure out what exactly that is, for each of us uniquely different.
10 years - almost a decade.
Today I’m the proud founder of Lemon Kind Creative - my creative consultancy supporting holistic entrepreneurs and cool tradies with their brand, creative digital landscape, and marketing. 10 years ago I would have never thought or even believed that this is where I’m headed. But I followed the signs, snacked on the breadcrumbs, and most of all, kept choosing the journey.
When I quit my last full time job in Sydney I said to myself ‘whenever I close my eyes for good I will at least say to myself that I’ve tried’. The most important thing for me became to take this leap of faith and create something that allows me to work and live on my own terms.
10 years - almost a decade. And here I am and it still very much feels like the beginning.
But looking back - it truly is not. The immense amount of growth I’ve navigated - I’m unable to capture in words. Could try book someday maybe.
Delayed gratification, the bane of my existence
What I am wanting for you to understand is that - entrepreneurship takes time, trial and error, taking risks, and backing yourself over and over again.
I believe that the difference between those who become successful and those who don’t is that those who do are willing to take the spiritual journey.
The journey of resolving the blockages, the limiting beliefs, and slowly but steadily chipping away at every mountain that is seemingly in the way of what you want to achieve.
It’s rooted in the knowing that the longing is bigger than what stands in the way and choosing the untrodden path that comes with the scratches and bruised knees, but ultimately with a rewarding smile and a feeling of accomplishment.
Thanks mum!
Sometimes I wonder what persistent stubbornness I’ve inherited from my ancestors that kept pushing me forward no matter how dark or dire the situation I found myself in.
So wherever you are on your entrepreneurial journey - hold on tight and keep going. It’s worth it!! And most of all: I believe in you AND I SEE YOU.
And the (not so) secret is:
There is no secret. It about choosing yourself and your dreams every day. It’s knowing that hard days (weeks, month?!) are all part of it. It’s the principle of the yin and the yang. One only exists because of the other, and simultaneously they live within each other.
Going forward you can expect little nuggets of wisdom from me about what I’ve learned so far on my entrepreneurial journey, whilst also sharing some of my knowledge around branding, websites, marketing, and my forever favourite topic: mindset.
